Tips for Success

Making shrinky dinks is pretty simple, and you'll find pace by footstep instructions below. However, in that location are a few tips I want to mention that will ensure the process is successful.

You lot are going to need to be able to print your photo on your home printer, and you will need to size the photo + lighten it before printing. Apply any photo editor you accept to do both these things.

Size: I printed my photos at 3.5 inches wide past v inches tall, and after shrinking they ended upwardly i.5 inches broad and 2.v inches tall, which is a pretty good size for a keychain.

Lightening: Any time you broil a shrinky dink, the colors get darker. Because your photo will darken later on baking, it will expect best if youslighten the photo earlier press information technology on the shrink picture show (lightening the photograph is optional, just exist aware that if y'all don't the finished keychain will look darker than the original photo). If you are using a photograph application where you can change opacity, reduce the opacity to virtually 75% before press. Or, if you cannot conform opacity, utilize a levels adjustment, or but a "brightness" adjustment to lighten the photo. Hither you see my original photo and what a lightened version looks like:

Shrinky Dink Blistering Tips

The biggest trouble people run into with shrinky dinks is not baking them long plenty. When yous peek into the oven as your shrink flick is baking, you'll see information technology getting all curled up and warped, and you'll wonder if this is really going to work. If you pull a shrinky dink out of the oven when it's still curled upward, you'll never get it to lay completely flat, and you lot'll be unhappy with the finished result. Expect until your item has flattened back out before you remove it from the oven. That may mean you lot bake your keychains for longer than the instructions on the parcel say. Most brands of shrink paper tells yous to bake 3-5 minutes, but I discover that closer to 8 minutes at 325 degrees F works all-time.

This is what your keychains volition await similar while they are baking:

Only after vii-viii minutes they should exist simply nigh completely flat and yous can pull them out of the oven. Have a spatula handy in case your keychain withal has a small wave to it – simply press down difficult with a flat spatula equally presently as it comes out of the oven. I as well like to fold the parchment newspaper over the baked keychains and and then place a heavy book on superlative while they absurd to make certain they terminate totally flat.
